Rome and Assisi Trip
22nd -29th April 2006
Rome and Assisi
A group of 22 people mainly from Paignton Parish together with members of Torbay and Exeter Parishes went on a pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi.

In Rome the group saw many major sights, Churches, catacombs and ancient monuments accompanied by an incredibly knowledgeable guide.

We participated in a Eucharist everyday, in a variety of locations including The Basilica St Peter’s, the Catacombs of San Callisto, The Anglican Centre, Anglican Church in Rome, the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, and at St Anthony’s Guest House in Assisi.

The Anglican Centre in Rome gave us a view of the connections between the Anglican Church and the Vatican.

The communion service in the catacombs gave us a connection to the thousands of early Christians who died in their faith, and buried in single or family graves in one of the many catacombs of Rome.

In Assisi we experienced the tranquillity of the Hermitage of St Francis, and gained a better understanding of his life and work, and that of St Clare.

Some of the party had great delight in finding North American connections with the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in St Anthony’s Guest house.

An incredible pilgrimage and all our thanks to Gywneth and Father Tubbs, for their organising and guidance.
